Storytelling in Libras

The educational project of K3A focuses on sensory experiences related to the five senses, and for this reason, we provided the students with a unique opportunity: storytelling in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). To make this experience even more special, we invited Catarina Kumada Fritz’s mother, Kate Mamhy Oliveira Kumada, who holds a Ph.D. in Special Education with expertise in the field of deafness, to share literary narratives that had been previously read by the teacher.

As the story “Pete, the Cat: I Love My White Shoes” was already familiar to the students, presenting it in Libras aroused their curiosity and interest in learning more about this form of communication. After the storytelling, the students had the opportunity to learn expressions and some words in Libras, further enriching their educational experience.

O projeto educacional do K3A se concentra na experiência sensorial dos cinco sentidos, e, por essa razão, proporcionamos uma oportunidade única aos alunos: uma contação de histórias em língua de sinais. Para tornar essa experiência ainda mais especial, convidamos a mãe da aluna Catarina Kumada Fritz, Kate, para compartilhar narrativas literárias lidas previamente pelo professor.

Dado que a história “Pete, the Cat: I Love My White Shoes” já era familiar aos alunos, apresentá-la em língua de sinais despertou a curiosidade e o interesse em aprender mais sobre essa forma de comunicação. Após a apresentação, os alunos tiveram a oportunidade de aprender expressões e algumas palavras em língua de sinais, enriquecendo ainda mais sua experiência educacional.
